Beauty Giant, Urban Decay has decided to discontinue the iconic Naked eyeshadow palette. When Urban Decay launched the Naked palette back in 2010, it revolutionised the makeup industry forever.
It wasn’t like neutral eyeshadow palettes didn’t exist before Naked, but they were nothing to write home about. With its 12 beautiful and wearable shades, the Naked palette pretty much started the online beauty community.
Despite selling 30 million units worldwide and bringing in over $1 billion in sales, Urban Decay has announced that they are now discontinuing the product which was their first.
In a post on their Instagram, Urban Decay bid a tearful goodbye, with an actual funeral which you can watch below. It said.
“Today, we mourn our beloved original Naked palette, a revolutionary product that changed the beauty industry forever. A little bit naughty, often dramatic, and always in the press, the innovative game-changer and category creator will be laid to rest after 8 years. The funeral is being held today in Newport Beach, CA with badasses and beauty influencers alike.”
Urban Decay founder, Wende Zomnir, also took to Instagram to pay her respects, teasing that some new products might be born from the ashes. “Saying goodbye to the OG NAKED is bittersweet.
“We shared a history. We shared a soul. I will forever miss her, but plan to turn the grief into even more greatness. Urban Decay will continue to thrive in Naked’s memory and honour – just wait and see.” She said.
It’s not very often that a company mostly in the beauty industry kills their first baby, but we guess there is a reason why. We just can’t wait to see what they come up with last.
