The UK has shown the integrity of its justice system by sending one of Nigeria’s most powerful politicians, Ike Eweremadu, to prison for organ trafficking. Following his conviction, the 60-year-old former Lawmaker was sentenced to nine years and eight months imprisonment.

His wife, Beatrice, Ekweramadu, bagged four years and six months imprisonment. The couple’s medical middleman, Dr Obeta, was not left out; he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. On March 23, 2023, the elite couple made the news after they were found guilty of trafficking a 21-year-old man from Nigeria to the UK under the pretence of giving him a better life in the UK but was actually to harvesting his organ to treat their daughter, Sonia Ekweremadu who is suffering from kidney disease. Since their sentencing, Sonia has come out to defend her parents while the actual victim in the case has begun begging that the UK grant him asylum for fear of being unlived if he returns to Nigeria.

Surprisingly, the Nigerian elite class and ruling class have been mute on one of their own going to prison in a strange man’s land for trying to save his daughter’s life but not Reno Omokri, who, in a recent social media post, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to use his private audience with King Charles III on the occasion of the Royal Coronation to secure a pardon for Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife. Will President Muhammadu attempt to secure a pardon for the couple?
