Alexis Olympia Ohanian, the first daughter of Tennis Champion Serena Williams turns one year old this week. However, Serena and family will not celebrate her birthday due to Jehova witness beliefs.

The tennis legend has confirmed that she will not be celebrating her baby girl’s first birthday, due to her beliefs as a Jehovah’s Witness. She made this known while speaking at a press conference at the US Open.

A reporter asked Serena: “Is there a birthday party planned?”

And Serena replied: “Olympia doesn’t celebrate birthdays. We’re Jehovah’s Witnesses, so we don’t do that.”

Though Serena’s husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, did not grow up in a religious household, it is believed that he is now practising with his wife.

Speaking to Vogue last year, Serena said: “Being a Jehovah’s Witness is important to me, but I’ve never really practised it and have been wanting to get into it. my Husband Alexis didn’t grow up going to any church, but he’s really receptive and even takes the lead. He puts my needs first.”
