Recall we earlier reported that Nigerian Singer Burna Boy has backtracked from his initial vows to never set foot on South Africa, and will be one of other African stars on the line-up to perform at the African Unite Concert.
Well, Some South African artistes under the umbrella of Tshwane Collective have kicked against the singer performing at the upcoming concert after his remarks on the xenophobic attacks that occurred in the country on September 2019.
In a letter sent to the country’s Minister of Art and Culture, the group wrote that Burna boy incited violence and hatred against South Africans, and that in a deleted series of tweets, he also warned South African rapper AKA to take precautionary measures on personal security as he was out to hurt him.
Part of the Letter reads: “Whoever may have deemed that the country needs a PR exercise of this nature would have done so largely as a result of the callous, misleading and unwarranted incitement by this very artist. Not only did he spread falsehoods through his extensive platform, he literally incited violence and hate.”
Meanwhile, AKA did respond to the news of Burna Boy’s impending visit to SA by saying that he would love to attend the concert and see if the Nigerian singer will keep true to his threat.
Tshwane refusal to see Burna Boy perform in their country is a clear indication that the love lost between the celebrity figures of both nations as a result of the recent xenophobic attacks on Africans in SA is truely yet to be found.
