With Knife attacks, abuse, mental health, bullying, peer pressure, young people self-harming and more atrocities affecting young people in the UK, another beacon of hope has been launched in a massive way right in the heart of Southwark, London where knife crime has been rampant.
“The Listeners101” is a voluntary phone line service set up to just listen to young people vent, rant or share their fears or concerns to people who would not judge them but just actively listen. ‘The Listeners101’ was launched at 805 Restaurants, a large community based African restaurant chain, who supported the cause by providing all the drinks, food and venue complimentary.
Speakers on the night Included Former boxing champion & SKY sports pundit Spencer Fearon, Community activist and founder of ‘SADE – M.A.G.A.K.C. Baroness Jumoke Ariyo, Entertainment & PR specialist DJ Abass, Community leader & Exec Dir NDDIS Chief Bimbo Afolayan-Roberts, Secondary school teacher Kim of Kymages, Afrobeat Artist and Southwark resident MoeLogo, Former Kennington resident and business leader Ricardo Simms, and the youngest speaker on the night, Kennington born Nicole Onigbanjo. Each speaker shared incredible insights into interactions between young people and society.
The Founder of The Listeners101, Tola “Wisetola” Onigbanjo, shared the vision of the organisation and the need for such a service for our young people. The lines are now open from 7 am till 11 pm to listen to any young people who feel the need to talk to someone.
The Chief Host and compere on the night was Sam Onigbanjo.
