WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram apps had a blackout out and all the social platforms were inaccessible, affecting users worldwide on October 4th 2021.
The outage began around 4:30 pm and lasted about 10.30 pm according to online outage trackers.
Immediately after the first reports, the hashtag #facebookdown was trending on Twitter, with users worldwide reporting issues connecting.
In response to the outage, WhatsApp through their official Twitter account communicated to their users that they are working towards restoring the app.
The tweet read;
“We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!”
This is reportedly Mark Zukerburges second outage this year and the October 4th blackout is reportedly the worst so far with a little over 6 hours. The first outage occurred in February 2021 but only for one hour.
