Hollywood star, Viola Davis and NBA star Steph Curry will team up to produce a documentary based on the 2015 shooting in a Charleston, South Carolina, where self-identified white supremacist Dylann Roof killed 9 people atthe Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The people behind Emanuel have been looking for a distribution partner and finally bagged two, Curry and Davis as executive producers set to produce the documentary through their respective production companies.

“June 17, 2015 served as a sad reminder of the power of racism,” Davis, along with Julius Tennon, said in a statement. “That evening, a routine bible study at Emanuel Church was a soft target based solely on the racial profile of the congregation. We, along with the country, grieved each family’s loss. Yet, miraculously, from this devastation, we witnessed tremendous benchmarks of humanity. The survivors found courage to love in the face of hate. JuVee is proud to be a part of this healing and truth telling along with Unanimous Media, Brian Ivie and John Shepherd.”

The movie which will be called “EMANUEL’, is set to be an incredibly powerful film.

“The documentary highlights how a horrible tragedy can bring a community together, and spreads an important message about the power of forgiveness. Stories like this are the reason we created Unanimous and entered the entertainment space. I hope the film inspires others like it does me.” Curry said.

The doc will include interviews with survivors and family members who were forced to come to terms with such a heinous act of violence while revealing how a moment so tragic was still able to bring a community together. Emanuel‘s producers describe the film as “a poignant story of justice and faith, love and hate, and the healing power of forgiveness.”
