Russia’s President Vladimir Putin continued to receive sanctions from the rest of the world following the Russian-Ukraine invasion. Recently he has been suspended as honorary president of the International Judo Federation (IJF). The IJF announced the suspension on Sunday, Feb. 27, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This means Putin has temporarily lost his most senior official position in world sport.
The IJF said in a statement posted online: “In light of the ongoing war conflict in Ukraine, the International Judo Federation announces the suspension of Mr Vladimir Putin’s status as Honorary President and Ambassador of the International Judo Federation.”
