Was it wrong for Davido to unfollow Portable on social media, simply because he was supporting the opposition in the election?

When interests vary, not everyone knows how to understand why a person is choosing an opposing interest over theirs, especially when they think theirs to be better in every way possible. Recently, popular Nigerian Artist Habeeb Okikiola – popularly known as Portable – was unfollowed by his fellow Artist Davido.

It was gathered that both had set out to campaign for two different parties at the just concluded Osun State Gubernatorial elections. Davido was campaigning for Senator Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who happens to be his uncle, while Portable was rooting for Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC). It was gathered that both singers performed and campaigned for their candidates during their final campaign rallies.

Davido, it was gathered, unfollowed Portable during the campaign.

In a cryptic message released to the public, the “Zazoo” crooner indirectly lashed Davido with these words:

“Open your ears and listen. My father isn’t a rich man, I am not a son of a rich man, I am from the trenches.

I am the one that brought riches to my family. Open your ears so my words can enter. I am running and hustling in this manner and it is simply because of money. And also to avert the suffering my family had to endure, which doesn’t become my portion.

Once again, my father is not a rich man. I come from the trenches but managed to bring my family into wealth. So support who support you. They wasted no time in unfollowing us.”

I do not think anyone should blame Davido for taking that decision, if it is actually meant to give him peace of mind. While certain people think his actions to be childish, I believe we should cut him some slack.

Imagine coming on social media to see the post of someone supporting the opposition? Not many persons know how to argue or put out the points as to why a candidate is better than the other.  From the concluded Osun state election, it’s obvious that the residents preferred the Adelekes to the incumbent.

Again, the sufferings imposed on Nigerians by the APC at the national level, is enough not to let any state be taken by the party.

Davido cannot be blamed as we ordinary Nigerians have also had to unfriend and unfollow people on social media, simply because we think their opinions are annoying to what we believe. I have personally unfollowed many supporters of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, because I believe that no matter how the man is marketed, the marketer ends up appearing stupid to me. I have seen people on social media display their dislikes for any supporter of APC in the forthcoming elections.

When you have horrible personal experiences from the incompetence of the incumbent party, you wouldn’t blame anyone who wishes to unfollow people who support them. There is always this feeling that humans who still support APC have sold their conscience for a price – they’ve been bought.

We all are guilty of unfollowing people in order to have peace of mind. If I don’t want to sound harsh to you while explaining that APC will sink the country further, then the best thing to do is to unfollow you, so I stop getting angry.
