More Tribute keeps pouring for the queen of Soul Aretha Franklin. The Buckingham Palace guards have followed suit, the guards gave their own rendition of her classic hit Respect, Joining celebrities and the rest of the world after the loss of an icon.
The band of Welsh Guards performed an impromptu rendition of the song as Aretha was laid to rest in Detroit following her death from pancreatic cancer on 16th August.
The band, who always play during the changing of the guard, but tend to keep it far more traditional, wrote on Facebook:
“In the Army Respect for others underpins all that we do, so there was only one tune that would do for today’s ceremony: the 1967 Aretha Franklin hit ‘R.E.S.P.E.C.T.’ a declaration from a strong confident woman who knows that she has everything.”
While the band tend to stick to highly-regimented, choreographed routines, they have been known to deviate slightly this time.
Elsewhere, millions of people paid tribute to Aretha Franklin, including Ariana Grande, who performed Natural Woman at her funeral yesterday.
