It’s all ready for us to cruise Robert Eggers’ new movie, The Northman, an adventure set in 9th century Scandinavia, coming up this weekend.

The Northman is a concentrated Feature/Universal movie that first premiered at the Rigoletto Cinema in Stockholm last month and stars Alexander Skarsgård as the title character, who is accompanied by many Hollywood stars.

What is the film The Northman based on?

The Northman is based on the legend of Amleth, the inspiration for Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and this movie adaptation relays the story of Amleth (Skarsgård,) a Viking warrior prince in the year 895.

His father, the king (Ethan Hawke,) is wounded in battle, so the prince is given responsibilities and characters seeking to seize power struggle to push him aside. This movie Northman further features performances by Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Björk and Willem Dafoe.

When is The Northman released in theatres?

The Northman opens in U.S. theatres this Friday, April 22. At the moment, the movie will only be available in theatres, but after its shoot publicly, it will already be available on digital platforms such as Amazon Prime, iTunes, YouTube, Google Play and more, although it will not be available on Netflix or HBO Max at least in the short term.

There is no digital or VOD release date for The Northman yet, but other Universal films hit VOD approximately 45 days after their theatrical release.
