Chadwick had visited the White House in 2013, shortly after he played Jackie Robinson in the biopic 42. The meeting occurred three years before he would be diagnosed with colon cancer.

Obama said he was instantly convinced Chadwick was a blessed young man with the way he worked with kids at the White House during his visit.

He then saluted the Wakanda superhero for his perseverance. According to the former president, Chadwick gave people a hero to look up to even while in pain

He wrote: “Chadwick came to the White House to work with kids when he was playing Jackie Robinson. You could tell right away that he was blessed. To be young, gifted, and Black; to use that power to give them heroes to look up to; to do it all while in pain – what a use of his years.”

Chadwick Boseman died on Friday at the age of 43 after a four-year battle with colon cancer.

He had been diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and secretly battled the disease which later developed to stage IV.

The announcement of his death immediately saw waves of support and condolence messages pour in on social media both from celebrity figures and people around the world.
