On February 6, 2023, sensational RnB singer Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, put Nigeria on the global music map and got the whole world talking after she became the first female Nigerian artist to win a Grammy. Of course, on her own terms and maybe conditions. Looking as gorgeous as always, Temsbaby stepped out in a soft but sultry Vivienne Westwood gold-coloured dress to receive the Best Melodic Rap Performance award for her contribution to the hit song “Wait For U” featuring Future and Drake. The talented late singer didn’t just beat her co-nominees DJ Khaled, SZA, and Kendrick Lamar to clinch the coveted award; she also beat the African Giant Burna Boy in bringing a Grammy Award home in 2023.

Wait For U, a 2022 hit song by Future, samples Tems’ song, “Higher”, from her debut extended play, For Broken Ears and also had the 27-year-old singer delivering on the melodic rap verse. Since its release in 2022, the song has topped major charts and been certified platinum in top countries worldwide. Despite the success of the hit single, many doubted it could win Tems her first grammy. But not to her fans, the Rebel Gang, who have followed her meteoric rise in the global music industry and were convinced their fave was overripe for a Grammy Award. As they predicted, Tems grabbed that Grammy Award without much of a fight or noise. And now, the self-acclaimed Leading Vibe has become the first female Nigerian artist to win a Grammy, after Sade Adu. This British-Nigerian singer identifies as a British singer. Reacting, thousands of Nigerian artists, including Tiwa Savage, Waje, and Omawummi, have been pouring in their congratulations for the young singer.

Future wasn’t left out. The American rapper sent Temsbaby flowers and, in the note, wrote, “Accept this token of beauty as a thank you for being the best part of our Grammy Award Winning song. This is just the beginning.” As fans beg Future not to give, their fave “Belle” Tems says all glory belongs to God and fans supporting her. But as you already know, this is not the first time the talented singer would break a groundbreaking record. Temsbaby has done this not once and definitely not twice, but at least six times. So, sit back as we go over six major times Tems made it clear she’s on a whole different lane and speed. #Tems #Temsbaby #Temsawards #Temsmusicjourney
