Popular music mogul and businessman Emeka Okonkwo, who is widely known as E-Money, has been stripped of his security details by the Inspector-General of the Nigerian Police Force.
Nigeria Inspector-General of police, Mohammed Adamu, recently called for the immediate withdrawal of E-Money’s batch of police escort over alleged complaints about his mismanagement of the officers.
The news was made known by The Nation which reports that six police officers were relieved of their security service to the chairman of Five Star Group.
The Lagos state police command’s
spokesperson, Bala Elkana in a chat with blogger, Linda Ikeji confirmed the news of the withdrawal of the police escorts while noting that the matter is currently being looked into.
He is quoted to have said that “It is true that his escorts have been withdrawn and an investigation ongoing. I do not have much information on it.”
The decision was taken following numerous accusations that E-Money has reduced the police escorts to carrying out domestic errands and other unofficial duties like posing in photos as they opened the doors of his cars or holding his umbrella.
The Inspector-General is also said to have ordered a probe into his flamboyant lifestyle and the source of his money.
News of the withdrawal has since caused a lot of fuss on social media from Nigerians who flooded Twitter to debate about the responsibility of the men in black in the country.
E-Money wasn't supposed to be using police escort in the first place.
He could have hired private security personnel or get a registered and recognised security company assign to him a team of highly trained security operatives. pic.twitter.com/D46dq8klRl

IG withdraws E-Money’s 6 policemen. He was surprised police were attached to him & were being used as domestic servants, carrying umbrellas, opening doors & doing menial jobs for him.
Do not single out E-Money. Goose & Gander must be equal. Politicians are guilty of same crime!! pic.twitter.com/BOjwQUUpNF

So now that they've announced today the general public that e-money is now without escort/bodygaurd, they did not for one second think they'll be endangering his life, now that kidnapping and robbery is on a high rise in this country.

In the first place the Nigerian Police Force should be responsible for internal security of lives & properties of the citizens.
Police escort has been rendering selective service to the E-Money gangs when they can hire private security outfits.#COVID19
