Instagram have just revealed that their platform is going to be more video-friendly than ever after announcing the launch of a new app called IGTV, a feature which will allow publishers and celebrities to share up to 1 hour-long videos with their followers.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
One will have to download the app on iOS or Android and navigate to the video section from within your Insta page. Once there, you can either upload content of your own or browse the four categories: For You, Following, Popular, and Continue Watching.
One thing that makes IGTV so unique is that it’s been deliberately designed to reflect the experience of watching television. Where other services require users to search and select content to play, this will immediately start playing clips the second the app is opened.
In a press release, Instagram co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom explained: “In IGTV, the creators are the channels. When you follow a creator on Instagram, their IGTV channel will show up for you to watch.
While only larger accounts are currently able to access the hour-long limit, the company plan on expanding the feature to all users in the future: “Anyone can be a creator — you can upload your own IGTV videos in the app or on the web to start your own channel.”
