Michaela Coal wins BAFTA

British Ghanian screenwriter and an award-winning actress and playwright, Michaela Coal on Saturday swept her second award at the House of Fraser BAFTAs for female comedy performance of the year for Chewing Gum, which she writes and stars in. The actress graced the red carpet in an incredible traditional Ghanian gown which had been handmade by her mum.

The 25 years old actress won the Breakthrough Talent trophy at the TV Craft awards earlier this year. She told reporters at the awards ceremony that she’s already hard at work on the second series and promised it will be even “more cringe” than the first.

“I’m always pursuing what’s next,” she said, “and I’m trying to make series two even better than the first one if I can.” She added during her speech.

We’re so excited to see an actress and playwright who is upping her game and thus paving the way for black actors at BAFTA TV Awards through multi tasking. She is also a poet, singer-songwriter and screenwriter. Now that is serious multi tasking.
