Popular designer brand Lois Vuitton appoints Ghanaian-American designer Virgil Abloh as their new creative director.
Abloh is behind the popular streetwear brand Off White and is a frequent collaborator and friend of Kanye West.
The 37-year-old succeeds Kim Jones, who held the position for seven years and now oversees menswear at fellow LVMH-owned brand Christian Dior.
In a statement, Michael Burke, Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, said “having followed with great interest Virgil’s ascent since he worked with me at Fendi in 2006, I am thrilled to see how his innate creativity and disruptive approach have made him so relevant, not just in the world of fashion but in popular culture today.”
Abloh becomes Louis Vuitton’s first African-American artistic director, and one of the few black designers at the top of a French heritage house.
Congratulations Virgil Abloh!
