The Apple company teams up with media guru, Oprah Winfrey to create programs that will be released as a part of Apple’s original content line up. The merge marks one of the first agreements between Apple and Winfrey, which acts as the latest media venture to her billion-dollar empire.

While the 64-year-old will remain the chief executive of cable channel OWN which she launched in 2011 alongside Discovery Inc, she is expected to develop a series of shows, which will be featured exclusively on Apple’s forthcoming video platform.

However, the full details are yet to emerge on the type of content Winfrey will create, the cost of the deal or when it will be released.

Up against high competition, the partnership is considered a method made by the tech giants to dominate the entertainment market from rivals Netflix and Amazon.

In a statement, Apple said: “Together, Winfrey and Apple will create original programs that embrace her incomparable ability to connect with audiences around the world.”

Winfrey is the latest prominent figure to team up with a mega company on video content. It was announced last month that former president Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama have entered into a multi-year agreement to produce films and series for Netflix.

The media deal will potentially include scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries and features.
