Netflix has premiered the official trailer for ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’, a drama film starring Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman.
‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ is an adaptation of August Wilson’s 1984 play of the same name, written by Ruben Santiago- Hudson and directed by George C. Wolfe.
Set in Chicago 1927, Davis stars as Ma Rainey, a fiery singer known as the ‘Mother of the Blues.’
Boseman plays Levee, an ambitious trumpeter aiming to launch himself with his own updated versions of Ma Rainey’s songs.
The trailer released on Monday, October 19th included scenes of Boseman singing and dancing as Ma Rainey’s professional and romantic rival in the last performance the Black Panther star delivered before he died unexpectedly of colon cancer at age 43 in August.
The upcoming fllm will premiere on Netflix on December 18, 2020.
