Prof. Femi Oyebode to receive Legend recognition at CA Awards 2017!

CA Awards Directors and C. Hub Magazine are delighted to announce that Prof. Femi Oyebode will be among the respected personalities to receive recognition for their long excellent service and contributions to their various disciplines.

Femi Oyebode was born in Lagos, Nigeria. He studied medicine at University of Ibadan and graduated with distinction in 1977. He trained in psychiatry in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and holds the degrees of Doctor of Medicine Newcastle-upon-Tyne & Doctor of Philosophy University of Wales and was elected Fellow Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1996. He is Professor of Psychiatry University of Birmingham and Consultant Psychiatrist at the National Centre for Mental Health Birmingham.

Femi Oyebode was Chief Examiner Royal College of Psychiatrists (2002-2005) and Medical Director of South Birmingham Mental Health Trust (1997-2001). He is Associate Editor British Journal of Psychiatry, Council Member Newman University Birmingham, Board Member Writing West Midlands, and he has been Visiting Professor at several universities including Auckland, Western Australia, Ibadan, Kuwait, Singapore and external examiner at Cardiff, Keele, Leeds, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Nottingham, St George’s Medical School London, Sultan Qaboos Oman, and University College Dublin.

He is the author of Sims’ Symptoms in the Mind: textbook of descriptive psychopathology 5th edition, which is the leading English language text on the subject (translated into Estonian, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, & Spanish). His other books include Mindreadings- literature and psychiatry and Madness at the Theatre. His literary publications include Naked to your softness and other dreams, Wednesday is a colour, Forest of Transformations, Adagio for oblong mirrors, Master of the leopard hunt, and Indigo, camwood and mahogany red. His selected poems have been collected and edited by Onookome Okome. Femi Oyebode contributed critical essays to the Oxford Companion to 20th century Poetry and Oxford Companion to Modern Poetry. He has published in excess of 250 original papers and book chapters.

Femi Oyebode received the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Lifetime Achievement Award for 2016.
