David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, an award-winning Nigerian artist, has disclosed that he connected his father, Mr Adedeji Adeleke, with World Bank President David Malpass.

Davido stated that he was able to connect his rich father with Malpass during a brief encounter at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In an interview with American media personality Big Boi, the ‘Fall’ crooner revealed that his father has been attempting to see the World Bank president for some time but has had no luck.

The Omo Baba Olowo stated that after performing the World Cup closing ceremony, he ran into Malpass at his hotel, and the economic analyst praised his performance.

He claimed that as soon as they exchanged pleasantries and Malpass introduced himself, he contacted his father and informed him that he was meeting with the president of the worldwide bank.

When he said that, his father requested that he give the phone to Malpass, and that’s how they connected for a deal.

Davido said; “My dad has a lot of friends in high places and he has been trying to look for the president of the world bank. He’s been trying to get to the guy and the guy was at the world cup.

He sees me in the hotel and says “Davido I enjoyed your performance, I am the President of the World Bank”, I said; “Hold on “hello daddy, I have the president of the world bank” and he said; “Give him the phone”, connected the deal just like that.”

Davido recalls how his dad got him arrested

Weeks prior, David Adeleke, the popular Nigerian singer who is famously known as Davido, had gone down memory lane.

He recounted how his billionaire dad, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, sent police to arrest him several times in the early days of his career.

The ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ crooner said his dad was initially against his musical career and wanted him to focus on his education.

Davido was recently featured on Ebro in the Morning Show on Hot 97FM in New York, USA, on the heels of his album release.

The singer said his dad sent police operatives to arrest him and disrupt shows he was billed to perform at several times.

He said, “He sent police to get me like he sees a billboard; for example, ‘Davido performing, Wizkid performing’. He will send police to arrest everybody.”

When asked why his dad sent police to arrest him, Davido said, “So I can go back to school.

“He kept on doing it. Then there was one time. This is where I knew that ‘Oh I’m lit!’. They [police] came and got me. Then I’m in the cell and the dude that got the keys his phone rings, it’s my song. I said ‘that’s me’. He said ‘you’re Davido?’. I said ‘yes!’. And he let me go.”

Asked when his dad gave up on arresting him, Davido said, “I finished school. But I had to do like a part-time stuff. Not that he hated music [he just wanted me to be done with school]. And I feel like, he wants that whatever I’m going to do, I have to be successful, very successful.”

He added that his dad is proud of him now, and he is his number one fan.
