Singer May D Finally Reveals Why he Left Psquare & Square Records

Talented Nigerian singer Akinmayokun Awodumila professionally known as May D has taken to social media to lift the lid on how he was treated while contracted to the popular defunct music group, Psquare.

On May 2011,  singer May D signed under Square Record, the label currently  belonging to music mogul, Jude ‘Engees’ Okoye, elder brother to Peter and Paul Okoye of the now disbanded music group, Psquare.

However, on the 21 August 2012, the music star announced his exist from Square Records under controversial circumstances due to veering differences with top brasses at the label. He later announced his own label, Confam Entertainment.

Speaking on his reason for cutting ties with Square Records, May D recently took to his Twitter page on Sunday, May 24, 2020, where he narrate his ordeal with the label.

In his tweet, the Ile Ijo crooner noted that life was extremely difficult for him during his time at the label. May D claimed that he was made to live under improvised conditions for someone with ‘big songs’. According to him, Jude assigned him a one room apartment in his boys squatters which he had to share with the driver and cook of the music executive.

“For your information I was staying in their boys squatters with their driver and their cook just one room all of us shared a toilet and I had big songs and also the other side of their twin duplex was empty! Now! I slept on brand new television carton used my shirt as cover cloth,” he wrote.

May D is best remembered for featuring alongside Akon on the remix of ‘Chop my Money’ by Psquare. His disclosure is in relation to Cynthia Morgan’s recent account of her own sad exist from Northside Entertainment, the record label formerly owned by Jude.

In the statement announcing the split at the time, Jude Okoye said, ‘MAY D is no longer an artiste under the aforementioned outfits due to irreconcilable differences. We at Northside and Square records wish him all the best in his career and life.”
