David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido has announced he will donate more than $600,000 to orphanages across Nigeria While writing about him, the Cable News Network (CNN) described him as a Nigerian-American musician Recall that the call for donation by Davido was initially made in a playful way to his teeming supporters.
In what will amuse many Nigerians, given the fact that some western media are in the habit of demonising Nigerians whenever a terrible thing involving a citizen of the western country arises, Cable News Network, popularly known as CNN, has referred Davido as a Nigerian-American. To many people, this was done by the American company in effort to share the glory of the good deeds of the singer with Nigeria.
Davido was recently in the news for a kind gesture towards orphans in the country. Days ago, the iconic artiste asked his friends and fans to donate a million naira each to him for his birthday. The singer noted that he planned to use the money to ‘clear’ his newly acquired Bentley. After two days, the FEM singer garnered about N201m which was donated to his Wema bank account.
However, in a twist of the event, the singer announced that he would be adding N50m to the N201m and donating it to orphanages across Nigeria. He further inaugurated a committee that will disburse the funds.
CNN in its report on the development wrote: “Nigerian-American musician Davido has announced he will donate more than $600,000 to orphanages across Nigeria, after hosting an impromptu online appeal that initially sparked amusement and confusion from his fans.”
