For all his sporting achievements, Cristiano Ronaldo was more optimistic about becoming a fisherman than playing professional football during his time as kid.

Considered as one of the greatest to ever kick a ball, Ronaldo says he believed he’d spend his life as a fisherman in his home city of Madeira.

The Portugal superstar recently celebrated turning 35 years old on Wednesday, February 6, 2020, and used the opportunity to reflect on a glittering career during which he has become acknowledged as one of the all-time greats in the game.

In an interview with Canal 11, Ronaldo looked back on his life and also talked up the possibility of winning his sixth Champions League with Juventus.

He said:

“I thought I was going to be a fisherman in Madeira at 35.  This never came to my mind. I wanted to be a professional footballer, but I didn’t think I was going to win everything I’ve won.

To play at Juventus gives me the chance to win it again (Champions League). We know it’s difficult, it depends on many factors, but it’s possible because we have a good team. We must take one step at a time going forward.’

Well, instead of plying his trade in the coastal city of Madeira as a fisherman, the Portuguese International opted to become a professional footballer and now has 200 million followers on Instagram.

The rest is considered history.
