Oba Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu was born into the Akiolu Ologun Kutere royal family on October 29, 1943, in Lagos. Like many other royal blood, Akiolu grew up in the palace and spent the better part of his childhood visiting other Yoruba king palaces across the south-west region of Nigeria.
Following the completion of his primary education, he proceeded to Ansarudeen College, Surulere, Lagos for his secondary education. Soon after he completed high school, he got admitted to study Law at the University of Lagos where he would later earn a law degree.
Following graduation from the University of Lagos, the monarch joined the Nigerian Police Force where he served for 32 years. In 1999, the monarch was appointed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police and retired in the position in 2002.
