Chinese Doctors Are Not in Africa to Spread The Coronavirus. Here’s Why | Opinion

0

Over the past few days, there has been a flurry of fierce outcry amongst Nigerians over the government’s decision to sanction the arrival of a team of Chinese doctors into the country to help combat its own fair share of the single-barreled blast of coronavirus pandemic — a blast that has echoed through hundreds of thousands of lives around the globe, imprinting them with trauma that could linger for decades. Make no mistake, such concern is expected as it comes from a profound sense of awareness.

China has very much been cast as the villain in this Hollywood-style cataclysmic incident for good reasons. Like the Red Queen in Resident Evil, the country is seen as the real-life, state version AI system that chose to take ill-conceived actions after one of its largest cities was contaminated with the dreaded C-virus.

So when its authoritarian government suddenly offers to help undo part of the horror it not only aided to unleash on the world but could have averted in the first place, it is expected for a gazillion eyebrows to raise in search of interior motives, one of which is said to be the Asian nation’s bid to infect more people with what is still widely referred to by many as the ‘China Virus’.

But to state what most would consider absurd, Chinese health practitioners are not in Nigeria or Africa to spread the coronavirus. That notion is wide off the mark and doesn’t make sense at a time like this for many reasons. In fact, they’re here to truly render the much-needed assistance medical experts in the country silently yearn for despite their reluctance to admit it. And a huge part of this willingness stems from the role it played in plunging the world into this occurring health crisis.

As is well known, Wuhan was where the novel COVID-19 virus originated from – a typical Chinese metropolitan city of 11 million people. But for fear of external intervention, the communist government’s initial response to the outbreak was to play cover-up with the use of its well-oiled propaganda machine (state-owned media) and other repressive measures (suppression & mitigation) when it should have been quick to set alarm bells ringing.

The attempt to conceal from the world the emergence of a new pathogen that little was known about, even to leading virologists, failed decisively, including other countermeasures it scrambled to deploy to bring the virus under control. What began as a few manageable coronavirus caseloads quickly spiraled into a global pandemic.

China remains at odds with nations of the world since its ill-conceived contingency strategy was brought to light by the same foreign media it had feared. As a result, this has placed the communist government activities amid the pandemic under intense scrutiny.

However, the country’s leadership now acknowledges that resorting to repression after the epidemic came to the world’s attention in early January was a wrong and ill-taken decision. It now seeks to take responsibility and make atonement in ways that seem fit. Which explains the medical aid to Africa. it is a classic PR move aimed at repositioning the country’s broken image to a world yet to recover from the grueling effect of its intelligence failure.

Much remains uncertain about the new coronavirus; questions linger over its true origin – with plenty of speculations and conspiracy theories alluding to human invention and manipulation. But China has strongly rejected claims that it engineered the COVID-19 strain. The presence of a Chinese team of doctors in Africa makes it is hard to imagine a situation where there becomes a sudden spike in coronavirus cases in a continent which, until recently, appeared to be exempted from the pandemic. It will be in contraction with the government persistent assertion.

Furthermore, China has always desired to upsurge its cross-border rival nations and emerge as the dominant economic force in the international arena. The coronavirus bubble look to have created the perfect storm for Beijing to finally redress the balance of power in its favor.

The Chinese Government will no doubt fancy the opportunity to stretch its influence across the African continent

With a new world order likely to emerge from the socio-economic disruption caused by this global pandemic, the government will no doubt fancy the opportunity to stretch its influence across the African continent by seeking to make new nation friends and strengthen ties with old allies during this medical mission. Meanwhile, America and the rest of Europe continue to be hard-hit with an everyday increase of new viral caseloads of the virus.

So for all the outcry from well-meaning Nigerians, the 18-man team of Chinese doctors is only here to share medical experience with their fellow professionals from the NCDC in full protective medical apparatus – not to spread the coronavirus. Though the country should do well to prepare for a regular influx of sleazy Chinese cooperate gentlemen in high-end suits as soon as the world regains its sense of normalcy again.

Nigeria Will Need An Economic Miracle!

0

Nigeria will need an economic miracle similar to what Germany enjoyed after World War Two with a 15% annual growth rate over the next decade to recover from the Covid-19 crisis

(1) Like the rest of you, I saw those videos of Nigerians being humiliated in China. They were treated like animals simply because they are Africans. They are regarded as inferior beings and herded around like they are livestock

(2) It is no surprise to me that we are treated this way internationally. We are considered a burden and a nation of parasites by industrialised countries. Make no mistake about it, this will continue for as long as we remain an eternal consumer producing nothing

(3) China or any other developed nation will never treat the nationals of a country that manufactures industrial goods, propping up the global economy that way. I am actually glad that this COVID-19 has shone a mirror in our faces and shown who we really are. Responsible nations can take care of their people in these trying times, while irresponsible and parasitic ones like Nigeria cannot. We should all take a collective vow today to turn our economy around post-coronavirus to earn the international respect we think we deserve

(4) Reading through the budget revision published yesterday, I shuddered. Our 2020 budget has been significantly revised downwards. It was a paltry $28.8bn to begin with and is now $13.4bn as a result of falling petroleum prices and a collapse in global crude oil demand

(5) Given that about 70% of the Nigerian budget goes on recurrent costs like salaries, transport, building maintenance, administration, etc, this basically means that not one dollar will be spent on infrastructural projects in Nigeria in 2020

(6) It gets worse, however because unless we find a way to generate extra income this year, 2021 will even be bleaker. As a nation, Nigeria needs an annual budget of at least $100bn to take care of her 200m people. As things stand, we cannot even generate $15bn. Is it any surprise that we are treated in this racist manner worldwide? Why will the rest of the world respect a nation that cannot pull its own weight?

(7) After World War Two, Germany was in utter ruins, with her cities bombed, her industry in tatters, the population dispirited and no government in place. However, within five years, the nation was back on her feet, with both West and East Germany becoming thriving economies again. Nigeria simply has to follow suit if we want to get out of this rut

(8) With crude oil now selling for about $25 a barrel compared with the $57 in our budget projections and the $100 a barrel that dominated the Goodluck years, we are in dire straits. Global consumption is also going to remain weak as supply far exceeds demand, meaning we will struggle to sell the 2.1m barrels projected on our 2020 budget. I think Nigeria will be lucky to sell 1.5m barrels of crude in 2020

(9) When you do the arithmetic, you cannot but despair. We will need something like 15% annual gross domestic product (GDP) growth year-on-year over the next decade to get out of this morass. If between 2020 and 2030 Nigeria enjoys 15% economic growth every year, we will be able to recover. It is either that or we perish

(10) We do not even have the foreign reserves to prop us up as at the moment, as we only have about $37bn in the kitty. No matter how you look at it, Nigeria needs to launch a radical and unprecedented industrial economic diversification plan after this Covid-19 crisis. It is either that or we descend into becoming another Somalia or Afghanistan. With no jobs, our youth will revert to armed robbery, kidnapping, communal violence, ethnic hatred, religious bigotry and terrorism. Isis will just be licking their lips now as they have a very fertile ground to spread their hatred and indoctrination.

Now is the time to start thinking how to avoid that doomsday scenario.

“Slavery An Example Of Stories That No Longer Shock Me” – Toniaamaka Chrisokere

0

‘There are some stories
That NO LONGER shock me
I no longer buy them

Stories like they bought us as slaves Because if there weren’t willing sellers
There won’t be willing buyers…

Africans practised slave trade
Long before the Oyibos arrived

Some families sold
Their daughters to feed
Some exchanged their sons
For financial gain

Some shared with their wives
With men stronger than them
For security and stability

Some sold their voice
To the powerful
To live

If we weren’t use to
Buying and selling each other
It wouldn’t have been easy
For the Oyibos to penetrate

And take the market
To an international level

One person can’t sell
A bunch of people and
Getaway with it without
The community fighting
Against it as one voice…
And not wine or STOP it
The business started
From the GRASSROOT

Slave trade is still ongoing
Some have baptized it favour
To tread their child for a meal
And sponsorship

Child trafficking is still on-going
And so is adult trafficking
The desire for a greener pasture
Makes people do all sorts

Some have sold their birth-rights
Some have sold their voice and
Have become voiceless
In order to survive
For those stronger than them
Are capable of sending
Them to join their ancestors

As you question what’s
Happening around you
Think DEEPER.

There’s more to what we’re taught
There’s more to what we’re told
There’s more to what we see
There’s more to what we hear
There’s more to what we feel

By gathering it all
And process in honesty
You’ll see lies and TRUTH
Separating giving
You a clear opportunity
TO CHOOSE
Where to BELONG…..

If you choose to become a victim
You’ll sing along with your co-victims
If you choose to become a VICTOR
You’ll sing along with your fellow VICTORS

If you choose to become your own person
You’ll first stand alone before
Your kind will spot you
And join you or you join them

We’re all unique
Some sing along
An already written song
While some write a new some
And some EDIT an already existing song.
