Chiedza Ziyambe, Founder of ZFS and pageant director of Miss World Zimbabwe UK, said that the organisation is proud of what Amanda has achieved since participating in the beauty pageant.

“It is a testament to her hard work and perseverance. She has remained resolute in pursuit of her goals and her journey so far has been remarkable. We are looking forward to watching her represent her home country on an international stage and we’re rooting for her to win.”

The Miss World Zimbabwe UK campaign was a celebration of Zimbabwe, its culture and of women, with an emphasis on beauty with a purpose.

“ZFS is passionate about women empowerment. Part of our ongoing commitment as an organisation, is supporting and raising the profiles of young women and girls from across the globe, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to become what they aspire to be,” Ziyambe said.

Amanda, over the last two years, has worked tirelessly in the community to support various charitable initiatives and has continued to drive causes to support the girl child. She recently established Ngcono Mbowane Foundation, a charity organisation that provides funding and education resources for children who attend schools in remote areas.

Earlier in the year, Amanda travelled to Zimbabwe and visited two schools in Tsholotsho, where she donated school supplies and sanitary pads.

Other sponsors include the founder of Sandylou Bridal Wear, Sandra Chinogurei who has designed a dress, especially for the pageant. Loz Boutique has provided swimwear and Meticulous 1 on 1 hair founder, Ella May has offered to style her hair for the competition. Award-winning designer Tayamika has also shown her support and sponsored a cocktail dress.

“Partnerships are at the heart of what we do. We have a wonderful team of partners who play a vital role in making a positive impact in the community, particularly in promoting positive initiatives for women and young girls.

We are happy to have them on board to help us showcase and raise awareness of the talent we have in the Zimbabwean community,” said Chiedza.

The Miss Global International Pageant began in 2004 as Miss Commonwealth. It later changed to reflect the interest expressed by non-Commonwealth countries to compete. Since then, it is the first and only international beauty pageant to be hosted in Jamaica.

This year’s event is scheduled for 28 September 2019 at the Montego Bay Convention.

How to Protect Your Debit Card From Fraud

0

Debit card fraud is increasing on a daily basis because it is one of the easiest ways to get your hands on cash and at the same pay for online transactions.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Automated Teller Machine from selected banks across the country recorded transactions valued at N39.15 trillion in the fourth quarter of 2018.

It said that the N39.15 trillion was derived from 616,528,697 transactions recorded as data on “Electronic Payment Channels in the Nigeria Banking Sector” during the period.

Regardless of this seamlessness and due to increased dependence on debit cards, you have to be circumspect as there are online and offline thieves desperately wanting to steal your information.

They will have unauthorised access to your account if you are careless and you will lose your hard-earned money.

With this understanding, here are ways to protect your debit card from fraud.

Be careful when you use your debit card online

Many pay for their online transactions with their debit cards. However, before you punch in the numbers on your card and make a payment, ensure that the website is safe and secure. If you suspect anything, simply do not use your card. If what you are buying is important, contact the customer service team of the platform you are buying from.

Use ATM at a bank’s premises

Today, you will find ATMs at different locations that are not at the bank’s premises. For whatever reason, you should not use such an ATM. It is advisable to visit the one at the bank. In case of anything, you can easily walk into the banking hall to resolve any issues or lay a complaint.

Protect Your PIN

The way you handle your Personal Identity Number (PIN) can go a long way in determining the degree of your account security. Whenever you perform a transaction, guard your debit card PIN jealously as exposure can be fatal. Be warned.

Check your card activities regularly

No matter how thorough and protective you are with your debit card and your PIN, you should always check your account activities. There is a tendency for you not to check because nothing has happened to your card. Be proactive and always check your account activities.

Report suspicious activities to your bank

If you notice any suspicious activities with your account or card, do not hesitate to report to your bank as soon as possible. You can reach your bank by calling them, sending them a direct message on social media and chatting them live on their website.

The former prime minister and president of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe have died, aged 95. The country’s first leader post-independence, Mugabe had been ill for some time and was being treated in a hospital in Singapore.

His near 40-year leadership of the former British colony was marked with bloodshed, persecution of political opponents and vote-rigging on a large scale.

Current President Emmerson Mnangagwa confirmed the death, calling Mr Mugabe a “pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people”.

He said: “Cde Mugabe was an icon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people. His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Born in then-Rhodesia, Mr Mugabe co-founded the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) in 1963, a resistance movement against British colonial rule.

He became prime minister in 1980 of the new Republic of Zimbabwe and assumed the role of president seven years later.

In 2000 he led a campaign to evict white farmers from their land, which was given to black Zimbabweans and led to famine.

Mugabe retained a strong grip on power, through controversial elections, until he was forced to resign in November 2017, at age 93.

Mr Mugabe, who had been the world’s oldest head of state at 93, was replaced by Mr Mnangagwa, who had recently been fired as Mr Mugabe’s vice-president.

Divas of Colour International women festival 2020 a focus on mental health

0

Blacks are minorities in the UK yet, have the highest propensity to use mental health facilities. That is why #Divasofcolourfest2020 will focus on mental health again. Divas of Colour is creating the perfect platform to bring this discussion to the fore. More like operation let’s talk about mental health within Afro-Carribean communities. We need everyone to take these figures more seriously.

According to figures published by ONS (England, 2017/18), Black Caribbean people had the highest rate of detention under the Mental Health Act out of all ethnic groups, at 254 detentions per 100,000people. This was 3.7 times as high as the rate for white British people which is at just 69 per 100,000 people.

This was also the case for the England, 2014/2015 data released by ONS. Which states that Black Caribbean adults were the most likely to use mental health and learning disability services out of all ethnic groups where the data was reliable. Nearly 4,800 adults per 100,000 of the Black Caribbean population did so compared with just over 3,600 per 100,000 White British people.

Women, in particular, are facing huge mental health challenges and this is costing the larger families, communities and businesses, especially affecting the lives of young people as women are most likely to spend time with young people.

Statistical, mental health problems affect both men and women, as shown in the studies published by  Mental Health Organisation.

In England, women are more likely than men to have a common mental health problem such as; anxiety, depression and stress and are almost twice as likely to be diagnosed with anxiety disorders. However, in 2013, 6,233 suicides were recorded in the UK for people aged 15 and older. Of these, 78% were males and 22% were females. 10% of mothers and 6% of fathers in the UK have mental health problems at any given time. One in five (19.1%) women had CMD symptoms, compared with one in eight men (12.2%). Approximately 68% of women and 57% of men with mental health problems are parents.

Furthermore, the most common mental health problems experienced during pregnancy and after birth are anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The following figures show the number of women experiencing maternal mental health problems.

Postpartum psychosis: 2/1,000

Serious mental ill-health: 2/1,000

Severe depressive illness: 30/1,000

Mild-moderate depressive illness and anxiety states: 100-150/1,000

PTSD: 30/1,000

Adjustment disorders and distress: 150-300/1,000.

Unfortunately, women are expected to compete both in business, career professions and most do these still going through pregnancy, childbirth and nurturing the family. As more and more women step into the global stage, there’s more need to pay attention to their overall health and more specifically their mental health. Women are naturally more predisposed to poor mental health due to their biological dispositions, childbirth, religious, traditional and societal pressures all add to the strains and stress women continual face.

“Now the most relevant event and only festival for women of colour, Divas of Colour festival 2020 which will be held on 28th March in London, provides a fantastic opportunity to bring together and celebrate inspirational women of colour as well as raise awareness, bringing education on this important issue of mental health. The unique platform of Divas of Colour festival provides the opportunity to learn, share and celebrate the contributions and achievements which has proven to be an effective empowerment safe haven for Black and Brown women who do not have enough space to express their uniqueness and share their stories without being judged. Through a series of approaches and activities such as fashion shows, panel discussions, music, shopping and awards ceremony, we make sure to drive the message home with our audience year in year out”

Faustina Anyanwu said, “For me, mental health sums up an individual’s health as what happens in the mind has not just a direct effect on the general health but also, has a crucial effect on an individual’s overall performance and productivity. Therefore for a better society and outcome, women’s wellbeing must become a priority for organisations, families, businesses, nations and individuals alike. Employees, in particular, must pay attention, train and equip their staff with information on the peculiar needs of women which may affect their mental health.”

“Our aim is to educate as many people as possible on how to prevent a mental health breakdown, how to care for and protect their minds, looking at some of the triggering factors such as – finance, immigration, employment, and domestic violence.

With our tailored event such using lectures which are series of education and awareness topics which will educate especially women on how to protect themselves, prevent occurrences and what to do should they fall victims. The first step begins with helping women understand their worth, their rights and practical empowerment of building self-esteem and financial power having in mind the dangerous effects of some traditional and cultural practices on mental health..”, the founder, Faustina Anyanwu said.

“As Divas of Colour International Women’s forum continues to grow, our major focus will continue to be on the welfare of the women we serve: who are in the media, tech, health care, business, law, politics, entertainment and all manners of career and status. As we celebrate their contributions and achievements, open debates on issues that affect them continue to be paramount and of course creating an enabling platform for growth both for women in business and career professionals. We will never deviate from the core purpose of the organisation.”

Whitney Houston Sets To Tour UK in Form of Hologram Next Year & People Think It’s Not Right

0

Whitney Houston who is now late will once again take to the stage for a UK tour but in the form of a hologram. People are a little conflicted about the whole and think its a little awkward.

Virtual Whitney will be projecting all over the country next year according to a report from Music Week. Seth Faber, the Senior Vice President of Primary Wave, the music and marketing company who have signed a deal with Whitney Houston’s estate in order to create the show, has said, “So much effort has gone into making the show as authentic as possible, it’s going to be a phenomenal experience.” His company now own half of Whitney’s estate and half of any profits made.

The tour will be supported by the singer’s original backing singers and band, including her half-brother Gary, who toured with her nine times while she was alive. Reports say all the biggest Whitney tracks will be performed too, including ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ and ‘I Have Nothing’.

Other family members are also on board, with Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law and former manager, telling press, “The hologram has taken precedence over everything. Before she [Whitney] passed, there was so much negativity around the name – it wasn’t about the music anymore. People had forgotten how great she was. They let all the personal things about her life outweigh why they fell in love with her in the first place.”

Legendary singer, Whitney Houston was tragically found dead in a bathtub at the age of 48, with the autopsy stating it was due to a combination of drowning, cocaine use and coronary heart disease.

This new deal may also see a Broadway musical on the cards and an album of unreleased tracks from Whitney.
