Iconic star, Janet Jackson age 52, will be honoured with this year’s Global Icon Award at MTV’s European Music Awards. The music event is set to take place in Bilbao and will see Janet take to the stage to perform a medley of her greatest hits, including her recent hit single Made For Now.

This means she will join an elite list of artists and bands who have won the trophy before her, including Whitney Houston, Eminem, Bon Jovi, Queen and U2.

‘Her incredible artistry has opened doors for countless others while leaving an indelible impact on pop culture over three decades and counting.

Amongst her awards includes; six Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, and big wins over the years at the American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and Billboard Awards.

Janet recently delighted fans with a 13-song long set at the Global Citizen Festival held in Central Park in New York.

As well as delighting concert-goers with her vocals, she took her moment on stage to address important issues and gave an impassioned speech about women and the ‘double standards’ they face.

She said: ‘Like millions of other women out there, I know about bullying. I know about verbal abuse. I know about physical abuse. I know about abuse of authority.

‘I’m sick, I’m repulsed, I’m infuriated by the double standards that continue to treat women as second-class citizens. Enough, you guys!

‘Enough injustice. Enough bigotry. Mistreatment and mindless prejudice have to stop—and stop now. Equality is our demand. Action is our answer. Let’s go!’

This year’s MTV EMAs is set to take place at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre in Bilbao, Spain on Sunday 4 November.
