Nollywood actor turned lawmaker Desmond Elliot has apologised for addressing Nigerian youths as children while pushing for social media regulation in Nigeria.
Elliot this week received heavy backlash after a video of him speaking during a plenary session of the Lagos state House of Assembly saw him refer to Nigerian youths as children.
Elliot referenced the recent #EndSARS protests in the country and according to him “ children” were ‘cursing’ in the comments section.
In a series of tweets shared via his page, the former Nollywood star apologized for his choice of words during the deliberation.
According to him, his outburst was borne from the destruction and looting he witnessed during a tour of his constituency and he didn’t intend to be insensitive.
Elliot has been heavily critcized by celebrities and young Nigerians all week following his alleged support of a bill aimed at regulating the use of social media in the state.
He also reiterated his apology in a live interview with Arise TV.
