Many Nigerian top celebrities have chosen to create a distinction in their educational fields while focusing on their career, and this has earned them massive recognition in many parts of the world.

Nollywood actress Adesua Etomi is the latest to bagged an Honorary degree from Wolverhampton University, UK. The mother of one has added to the list of celebrities topping their educational game in this day and age.

These celebrities have been awarded honorary degrees together with receiving award plaques for their good works. These stars are recognised by top universities in different parts of the world and are conferred honorary degrees. Shall we call them role models?

  1. Adesuwa Etomi

The Nigerian actress Etomi, born in 1988 attended Corona School in Victoria Island, Lagos as a child. Thereafter, she attended Queen’s College, Lagos before moving to the United Kingdom at age 13.

Etomi obtained a diploma in “physical theatre, musical theatre and performing arts” from City College Coventry in 2004. She furthered her studies in drama and performance at the Wolverhampton University, UK and graduated with first-class honors.

The actress recently bags an Honorary degree from Wolverhampton University, UK, her alma mater in September, 2022. Adesua announces this new win via an Instagram post.

2. Tiwa Savage

Nigerian Afrobeats queen Tiwatope Savage famously known as Tiwa Savage born on 5 February 1980, relocated to London at age 11 and graduated with a degree in accounting from the University of Kent, UK. Tiwa enrolled to study Professional Music at Berklee College of Music, Boston, Massachusetts, U.S, and graduated with a degree in professional music in 2007.

 The ‘Somebody’s son’, singer obtains a doctorate honorary degree from the University of Kent, the UK, in July of 2022. She made the announcement on Instagram, addressing the Class of 2022 while identifying herself with the “Dr” title.

3. Helen Paul

Helen Paul, a Nigerian singer, comedian and actress fondly called Tatafo obtained her doctorate in Theater Arts from the University of Lagos in 2019. The comedian has come a long way and shocked many after she revealed that her mother wanted to abort her before giving her a second chance to live. Today is not only a successful Nigerian celebrity but also a very brainy one, now a Dr.

Helen announces via Instagram that she’s now the H.O.D Department of Arts, Music and Entertainment, Heart International University USA after relocating to the US in 2021.

4. Mo Abudu

Mosunmola Abudu, also known as Mo Abudu, born 11 September 1964, is a Nigerian media personality and CEO EBONYLIFE GROUP.

She attended the Ridgeway School, Midkent College and West Kent College. She also obtained a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from the University Of Westminister, London.

She was honored with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Babcock University in 2014, and in 2018, Mosunmola was awarded by the University of Westminster with an honorary doctorate degree of Doctor of Arts. She is currently a member of the British Psychological Society with the qualification in occupational and personality testing.

5. Peter Okoye

Peter Okoye born 18 November 1981, popularly known as Mr P, is a Nigerian singer. 

He was awarded with an honorary Doctorate degree from ESCAE University, Benin Republic in 2021.
