Segun Arinze, Nollywood actor and former President of Actors Guild of Nigeria, calls and demand for the resignation of Patricia Bala, the Director General of Nigerian Film and Video Censors board (NFVCB). This is because she failed to approve the cinema release of Half Of A Yellow Sun. A film adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie’s ‘Orange price for Fiction’ wining book, which was directed by Biyi Bandele, a london based producer.

Segun Arinze wrote “Please tell Madam Patricia Bala of Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board to release the movie Half of a Yellow Sun. She has no reason to hold on to the movie. She has no right to censor the movie only to classify it. She saw it in Canada and even partnered with the producers in Canada during the premiere. What she is doing now is an embarrassment to government and a big insult to our dear industry, Nollywood. We are not in a military regime. She should kindly resign”.

HOAYS was successfully premiered in Nigeria and was to hit Nigerian cinema screens from the 14th of April 2014, but have been propounded since then. The movie has been shown in London and Australia, America is about to embrace it as well. It is a shame the movie is not allowed in Nigerian cinemas because of the current situation in Nigeria and some scene in the movie, how ever just like Segun, Biyi Bandel and Chimamanda Adichie said, The movie celebrates love and not war. We hope they get to show the award winning movie in Nigeria very soon.
