Breaking News! Bill Gates, co-founder and former CEO of Microsoft and who was once the richest man on earth revealed on Twitter on Monday, May 3rd that he is splitting up with his wife, Melinda Gates after 27 years of marriage saying “we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple”.
Melinda Gates is yet to break the ice as of the time of publishing this post but some reports are saying the couple called it a quit after a Fiery Argument over the best way to prevent poor countries from getting vaccines
But this is how Bill Gates announced the divorce on Twitter in what appears to be a joint announcement.
The couple who met at Mircosoft and got married in Hawaii in 1994 were creators along with Warren Buffett, of the Giving Pledge, which involves giving away more than half of their wealth. They also worked on many projects in Africa.
Bill Gates who is still in Top 5 in worlds richest man according to FactSet, and worth 130 Billion dollars owns 1.37% of Microsoft’s outstanding shares, which are worth more than 26 Billion Dollars
In 2020, Bill Gates stepped down from Microsoft’s board after the coronavirus pandemic. He began spending time on the nonprofit Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation alongside his now ex-wife. The couples were co-chairs and trustees of the foundation, which was launched in 2000.
The breakup announcement comes two years after Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon announced his split with his former wife, Mackenzie and which was resolved amicably after they went their separate ways.
Bill Gates is also a good friend of Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote who is also a divorcee.
Bill Gates and Melida’s separation could set records for the largest divorce settlement to date. Interesting some believe it would affect the world of charity.
