Barcelona’s Espai Barça monstrous stadium project could suffer sponsorship withdrawal if the recent feed of information from journalist Marçal Lorente is accurate. Lorente is a staunch aide of former president Josep Maria Bartomeu and has persistently accused the current administration for the club’s present state of affairs. The journalist is now raising alarm that the Catalan giants are facing the threat of losing the €1.5 billion funding as investors are uneasy over some aspects of Laporta’s dream project that would see Camp Nou and the entire sporting complex undergo complete renovations.

Barcelona were set to receive the aforementioned sum from investors gathered by Goldman Sachs. But the recent shake-up in the hierarchy at the club, that saw Ferran Reverter step down as the CEO, has led to increased concerns within the investors.

The financial partners were believed to be unconvinced by the solvency of the project. At the same time, there were also some worries about the structure and definition of the deal. Reverter, it is being claimed, had travelled to Miami earlier this month to convince the investors. However, a report from El Triangle states that the meeting did not go well at all, which might have played a role in Reverter stepping down from the position in such a hurried manner.

Messi and Suárez’s indirect penalty goal

Following that, it seems like the concerns within the American investors have been further exacerbated. It is now up to the club and the hierarchy to win over them in order to ensure that the Espai Barça project kicks off without any hiccups.
