The reality TV show Big Brother Africa is the African version of the international reality TV franchise Big Brother.
A special edition of the Big Brother Africa franchise called Big Brother Titans premiered on 15th January 2023.
The big brother, Titans, shows off the faces of the new 20 contestants from South Africa and Nigeria on Sunday, 15th January 2023.
The 20 new contestants are from South Africa and Nigeria, namely, Yemi Craigx, Juicy Kay, Khosi, Olivia, Nelisa, Blaqboi, Mmeli, Nana, Ipeleng, Marvin, Thabang, JayPee, Yaya, Ebubu, Khehla, Jenni, Tsatsi, Kanaga, Justin and Yvonne. The 20 new contestants will be housemates for 3 months in the reality TV show as they entertain the viewers, and the winner gets to win $100,000 by votes at the end of the show.
The first eviction show in BBNaija Titans 2023 was on 22nd January 2023, but nobody was evicted from the show. However, things got real on the second eviction show, which took place on Sunday, 29th January, as Sandra and Theo were both kicked off the show.
The following housemates were put up for possible eviction, Yemi Cregx, Nelisa, Sandra, Theo, Ebubu, Tsatsii, Justin and Yvonne but it was the Santheo pair that got booted out of the house.
Following the pairing of housemates in the Big Brother Titans show, Blue Aiva and Kanaga (Kaniva) emerged as Head of the House for week 3. The duo emerged winners after their head-of-house game on Monday.
The game they played was the ‘throwing of egg’ challenge, and they qualified for another game with Jaypee & Lukay (Jaykay). Big Brother instructed the four housemates to run with sweets each and transport the sweets from point A to B. They were not allowed to either break the sweets or touch any of them sweets with their hands.
After the challenge, Blue Aiva and Kanaga Jnr were declared winners of the contest by Big Brother following the disqualification of Jaypee & Lukay (Jaykay), who had violated the rules of the game.
However, since the BBNaija Titans show, heads of the house have always been nominated for the week, as they would be given a separate luxury room in the house, and the head of house will be saved from being nominated for possible eviction.
Following are Biggie’s housemates who have been head of house in the show since 2016.
#7 Mmeli (2023)
Big Brother Titans housemate, Mmeli emerges as the first head of house for the BBNaija Titans show 2023. Mmeli becomes the first Head of House after winning the Head of house game held on a Monday night.
For the Monday game night, the housemates were divided into two groups, male and female, and were asked to build paper planes. After the round of building, the house-mates then put their inventions on a flight test.
At the end of the first round, Mmeli and Lukay emerge as the top male contestants, while Olivia and Jenni lead the female category. The second round of the game involves a game of dice, as the top four house-mates were asked to roll a die, and the person with the highest number would be the winner.
Mmeli rolled a perfect six and became the winner defeating, Lukay, Olivia, and Jenni in a dice game.
The 25-year-old South African chose Ipeleng as the Deputy Head of the House. According to Big Brother, Mmeli has the veto power to save other housemates if nominated for eviction. Also, Mmeli will not be nominated for eviction.
The BBNaija Titan, Memeli’s full name is Mmeli Prince Khumalo. The 25 years South African is from Hillbrow, South Africa. He is famously known as a model and content creator.
#6 Phyna (2022)
During the BBNaija Titans show in 2022, the housemate, Phyna, won head of house for week 8. She emerges as the head of house week 8 after winning the head of house game on a Monday night.
The game is in two rounds whereby any housemate who wins the two rounds of the game will emerge as the head of the house, win immunity from nomination, exclusive access to Big Brother Room and other rewards.
The first game was played in two rounds, in which the first round involved the females while the second round involved the males. The top two females and males from the first round of the game qualified for the second round of the game, where the final winner of the game will be declared.
Phyna, Daniella, Adekunle and Sheggz scored the highest in the first game and proceeded to the second round of the game. However, Phyna emerged as the winner of the second round of the game and won the head of house for week 8. She chooses Groovy as her roommate for the week as they would both be sharing the exclusive head-of-house bedroom.
The BBNaija Titan, Ijeoma Josephina Otanor, popularly known as Phyna, also made it to the top 5 housemates who remained at the end of the show as she emerged as the winner of the BBNaija Titans shows 2022, season 7. Phyna made history as she became the second female winner in the reality TV show since 2006.
#5 Laycon (2020)
For the BBNaija show 2020, season 5, tagged “Lockdown”, the fan favourite housemate, Laycon makes it to the final week of the BBNaija show as he became head of house a few days before the end of the show. Like his predecessors, he also enjoys the privilege of being the head of the house.
Laycon had wondered if he would ever become a Head of the House prior to then emerging the winner following a unanimous vote by the finalists in the late hours of Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020.
Weeks before he emerged as head of the house, he expressed his pain to Biggie during a diary session for losing the Head of House game, as he wondered if he would ever win it. Of then, Laycon served as the deputy head of house to the head of the house, TrickyTee as he chose Laycon to be his deputy head of the house.
Olamilekan Agbeleshe, popularly known as Laycon, is a 26-year-old singer and rapper from Lagos. He’s a graduate of philosophy from the University of Lagos who started his musical journey at an early age and has now emerged as one of Nigeria’s most promising new school acts.
Laycon and four others, Dorathy, Nengi, Neo and Vee, were the finalists left on the reality TV show 2020, as Laycon emerged as the winner of the BBNaija show 2020, following his huge fan base.
#4 Maria (2021)
One of the BBNaija ex-housemates 2021, Maria emerges as the fourth Head of House in the BBNaija show ‘Shine Ya Eye’ Season 6. Prior to Maria being head of the house, she was once Deputy to ‘Major General’ Pere as fondly called by viewers because of his authoritative leadership trait.
Maria emerges as head of the house after playing the game on a Monday night. During the game on Monday, each housemate was given 60 seconds to finish the course of the Head of House game, where they had to throw a dice and start the game. The aim of this game is to get the farthest within the time limit.
Maria bagged 32 points to take over the position of the head of house from Pere as the fourth Head of House.
As the new Head of the House, Maria was free from eviction but did not have access to the Head of House lounge because she broke Big Brother’s rules and was banned along with Liquorose and Peace for two weeks.
However, on the fifth week of the show, Maria got evicted from the show alongside other housemates, Jumoke and Sammie who were nominated for possible eviction. Although, It came as a shock to fans.
#3 Efe (2017)
BBNaija ex-housemate Efe became Ultimate Head of House in the BBNaija show season 2 in 2017. Head of House was a new title introduced into the reality show. Big Brother reveals the title’s meaning, rights and privileges on a Monday Night.
Efe wins the title by being the first housemate to successfully pop as many balloons that contain the alphabet needed to spell ‘Head of House’ from an Arena full of balloons.
The Warri-born up-and-coming rap artist, Efe Ejeba makes it to the finals as he beat Bisola, who became the 1st runner-up with 18.54 per cent of the vote at the grand finale. However, Efe was popularly known for the formulated slang, “based on logistics”.
#2 Mercy and Ike (2019)
BBNaija ex-housemates Mercy and Ike emerge as Head of House in the BBNaija show season 4 ‘Pepper Dem’ Edition, after winning games.
For the game, the housemates are assigned PBB Naija’s last man standing challenge, where housemates are asked to throw small balls into any of the thirty cups filled with water, with three attempts for each housemate in every round.
After several rounds of the trial from some housemates, they fell behind in the course of the game, leaving Ike and Mercy to the final rounds of the challenge.
Since it was the first time in the reality TV show BBNaija that two housemates emerged as winners of the Head of House, Big Brother said that only one of them gets to enjoy the immunity. Mercy decides to let Ike have immunity from possible eviction.
However, Ike eventually got evicted from the show on the 91st day alongside Elozonam, while Mercy made it to the finale as she became the first female to win the BBNaija show.
#1 Tobi (2018)
Tobi Bakre emerged as the third Head of House in the BBNaija Head of House 2018 tagged ‘Double Wahala’, as he won housemates Miracle, Anto and Cee-C in the Head of House game.
Tobi won the Head of House title for the third time in the show’s third week, as he won the title in the first and second weeks while he was still paired with Cee-C as deputy head of the house.
However, there were no evictions during his previous reign, so he did not get to use his power, which allowed him to save a nominated paired housemate and replace him with another.
Tobi was mostly talked about by viewers during the BBNaija show season 3 because of his relationship with Cee-C in the house as it was described as toxic and controlling. This triggered negative reactions from viewers who called for prayers to free him from Cee-C’s alleged manipulation. The hashtag #PrayforTobi became a trending topic on various social media.
It seemed that the viewer’s prayers were answered when Big Brother, owner of the BBNaija show, changed the initially paired housemate during the reshuffling in the house, leaving Cee-C to be paired with Lolu while Tobi was paired with Alex.
The housemate, Tobi Bakare makes it to the top 5 finalists of the show alongside Miracle, Cee-C, Alex and Nina as he emerges as the second runner-up of the BBNaija shows season 3.
