By now, a 57years old man all things be equal, if he marries on time, should be having grandchildren. But here we are, celebrating 57years as a country, but there is nothing to show for it. My question now is that, was it that we gained independence on time? Or we should have allowed the British to still continue ruling us? Or we were not yet ripped for it? Or better still, we were like children that were given a responsibility that is far beyond us?

The above questions should be addressed, if actually Nigeria will have cause to continue to celebrate her year of Independence, reasons being that nobody celebrates failure, but success, and it would be to our own detriment if we continue to celebrate failure. Imagine a man of 57years, who can not boost of sustaining himself, would that man be regarded as a man? such a man, where his mate are talking, will he have any contribution to make? The truth is bitter, but it is high time we say it, if we must take a leap from where we are now. We still have a long way to go, and if we remain with this kind of attitude of governance, there will be a great problem ahead.

There is no need start pointing out that Nigeria is this or that, because we all know where the problem lies and it is high time we tackle it, if we must have cause to celebrate our Independence. Our youth are reducing by the day in the Mediterranean sea, as a result of looking for greener pastures, because the country is no longer conducive to live in. Take a statistics of people traveling abroad, you will find out that, we have the highest number of percentage. While there are death of those announced in the sea, you still find more people taking the risk to cross, not minding if they die. This alone is enough to send a message to our leaders, that all is not well, but you see them paying deaf ear because they are after their own personal interest.

My submission here is that if we must have cause to be celebrating our Independence, we must do the needful to alleviate the suffering of our people, by providing the basic needs, to make the citizen comfortable. If we are able to meet these needs to start with, the idea of our youth, traveling abroad will become a thing of the past, the environment will be conducive for the youth to venture into any kind of business they want to, and we will regain our pride as the giant of Africa.

When our leaders take her citizens as their first priority, by being in their shoe, to know how it hurt for a youth not to have things at his disposal to become whatever he want to be, then we always have a rethink before making any policy. Nigerians are like people leaving in water and still finds soap in their faces looking for water to wash it. A good governance with the provision of the basic amenities is what Nigerians need if we must get out from this bondage, and if our leaders can do this, then there will be cause to celebrate her Independence.

There is this saying that when you teach a man how to fish, he can fend for himself, simple thing applies here, if our leaders are able to provide the basic needs, the citizens can fed for themselves without waiting for the government to provide jobs for them. That notwithstanding, and as a patriotic Nigeria, I wish Nigerians,

Happy Independence Day.

We will succeed!
