Nigerian striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, grabbed his 10th goal of the season in Union Berlin’s 3-1 loss to Feyenoord in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday.
The one-cap Super Eagles forward scored in the 35th minute to hand his side a lifeline into the game at 2-1, but the Germans failed to grab their opportunities as the Dutch side held on for a win, which leaves Union bottom of the log in Group E with three points in three games.
Awoniyi has been in form since his permanent switch to the club from Liverpool in the summer for €6.5m.
The goal is the second for the 24-year-old in the Conference League this season, after scoring in the team’s 3-0 thrashing of Maccabi Haifa last month.
His impressive form caught the attention of Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, who handed him his first senior national team call-up for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against CAR with the striker playing 45 minutes in the first leg loss in Lagos.
It’s one of the young strikers best seasons in Europe, as his goal against Feyenoord equalled his 10-goal feat for Belgian side Mouscron in the 2018/19 season and just four goals behind his best season so far for the same thing.
