Serena Willians has been reported banned from wearing her signature black bodysuit at the French Open, this came after they made changes to their dress code. Nike the makers of her popular French suits reacts.

French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicelli singled out Williams’ catsuit as an example of the kind of attire that will no longer be accepted as the tournament prepares to introduce new dress code rules.

“I think we sometimes went too far,” he told Tennis Magazine’s 500th edition.

“The combination of Serena this year, for example, it will no longer be accepted. You have to respect the game and the place.”

Giudicelli did not reveal the new rules but said they will not be as restrictive as at Wimbledon, where players must wear all-white outfits.

He added that although most player uniforms for 2019 have already been planned, the FTF is asking manufacturers to share the designs.

The former world number one first wore the bodysuit when she returned to the Grand Slam scene at Roland Garros in May after giving birth to her daughter in September 2017.

Nike quickly took to their social responding to the news by saying

“You can take the superhero out of the costume but you can never take away her superpowers”.

Williams will make her return to the US open when the tournament starts on Monday.
