Paul Biya, 85 Wins 7th term as President of Cameroon

0

The president of Cameroon Paul Biya has yet again bagged himself a seventh term in office. The elections which held this weekend was marred by low turnout and voter intimidation.

Biya, at 85 is currently sub-Saharan Africa’s oldest leader and he took 71.3% of the vote, according to official results. Opposition calls for a re-run of the presidential election were rejected by the Constitutional Council last week.

Riot police were deployed on Sunday to the major cities of Yaoundé and Douala in case of opposition protests. Cameroon’s two English-speaking provinces have been hit by more than a year of violent protests and attacks by separatist rebels which have left hundreds dead.

Biya’s nearest challenger, Maurice Kamto of the MRC/CRM, gained just 14.2%. Mr Biya took the majority of votes in all but one of Cameroon’s 10 regions, losing out to Kamto by a small margin in the Littoral region which is home to the economic capital, Douala.

Two days before results were announced, Africa’s longest-serving President Teodoro Obiang Nguema of neighbouring Equatorial Guinea congratulated Mr Biya on his win.

“Dear compatriots in Cameroon and the Diaspora, Thank you for your renewed and large confidence. Let us now join in taking up, TOGETHER, the challenges that confront us in ensuring a more united, stable and prosperous .

Supermodel Naomi Campbell calls out London Fashion Magazine for Lack of Diversity

0

Renowned supermodel, Naomi Campell has called out Hello!, a fashion and lifestyle publications London magazine, criticising them for presenting a “completely whitewashed” London.

Speaking at the One Young World summit in the Netherlands, Campbell spoke about how she’d seen a copy of the magazine in her hotel room and was shocked by its representation of the capital.

She said.

“I picked up a Hello! magazine today and if I was not from London I would think ‘My god, London is completely whitewashed’,” she told Press Association.

“That’s what it sells you, it’s awful. London is one of the most diverse cities and cosmopolitan cities in the world and we have a huge diversity of people. I was shocked. I was just like ‘wow’.”

The model praised close friend and British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, for bringing diversity to fashion magazines since replacing former British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman.

“It’s (his editorship) uniting a whole different culture of people and innovations, and young people coming together and speaking out and I hope that it continues,” she said.

Using Enninful as an example, Campbell described the fashion industry’s shift towards diversity as “better late than never,” adding that this season’s runways showed a marked improvement, with designers casting models of a wide range of ethnicities.

The court has yet to hold a hearing about the circumstances that led the Nigerian Army to come to my house to kill 28 people – Nnamdi Kanu

0

The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has finally spoken to the public. has vowed never to return to the Federal High Court in Abuja where he was standing trial before he left the country.

Kanu who resurfaced in Jerusalem on Friday, October 19th after he went missing for over a year. During a live broadcast, Kanu said the Nigerian courts do not have the capacity to try him. According to him, there is something fundamentally wrong with the brains of those that rule Nigeria.

Nnamdi Kanu shared details about the military invasion on his home that led him to escape the country. 28 people were killed during the invasion, he said, as was his family dog, Jack.
He said:
“Nigerian court is a Kangaroo court. I did not jump bail, I left because the court failed to protect me
I shall not be honouring the court. I cannot be tried by a court I do not recognise. The zoo called Nigeria cannot jail me. I will fight till the last day.
Till now, Binta Nyanko’s court is yet to hold a hearing on about the circumstances that led the Nigerian army to come to my house to kill 28 people. Only upon a clear pronouncement of the intentions of that very court which I suggest to them should be free, will this very case move forward.
Going forward, there must be guarantee from the international community so that this case can proceed and I will prove once and for all that there is something fundamentally wrong with the brains of those that rule Nigeria.
Two jets were hovering over and they stormed the compound and I sustained several injuries and in the process of trying to defend me, 28 men fell.
The sole purpose of that evil dance was to kill me and members of my family. They didn’t want me to go to Abuja because they didn’t have any case against me. They were afraid they would be disgraced before the world. They decided to eliminate me instead. They know if I go to court, that very country will not be the same again.
I am Nnamdi Kanu, no mortal flesh can kill me. They have not given birth to that very person. Since they didn’t want me to come to court, I shall come back to Biafra land. There is nobody who can accuse IPOB of engaging in any form of lawlessness. I am in Israel.
This same court that granted me bail stood by and watched as the army disobeyed court order. The army in contempt of court court came to kill me. I was in my home preparing to go to Abuja for my case when they came to kill me. They even killed Jack, our dog. They killed my cousin, Adaku and 28 others. The notion that I jumped bail is a fallacy, a lie and a deceit. It is untenable in law”.

The Viral Video is Legit! Nnamdi Kanu to hold Press Broadcast in 24 Hours says Ifeanyi Ejiofor his Lawyer

0

Ifeanyi Ejiofor is the lawyer of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)Nnamdi Kanu, after he said he couldn’t tell if the viral video of IPOB leader was real or not revealed his client will hold a press broadcast within 24 hours.

The Cable reports that Ejiofor said this in a statement he finally confirmed the authenticity of the photos and videos showing Kanu in Jerusalem.

Photos and videos showing the IPOB leader had circulated on social media on Friday, he was seen dressed in white while praying in Jerusalem.

Ejiofor said Nnamdi Kanu, in the broadcast, will address how he escaped the invasion of his home by the Nigerian military in Abia State.

Mr Ejiofor said:

‘I woke up yesterday to scintillating news making round the social and online media to the effect that my client (Nnamdi Kanu) was sighted in Jerusalem during a prayer session.
Initially, I wanted to disbelieve it but for the source, struggling at the same time to come to reality that God has kept to His Promises after the murderous invasion of his home on the 14th day of September 2017, by rampaging Nigerian Soldiers, that saw the horrific blood carnage witnessed in his home on this black day.
But the God of Isaac, Abraham and Jacob has put enemies to shame, by the development of yesterday. I cannot forget in a haste the anxiety that had enveloped me for this past 13 months .The anxiety over the uncertainty of his safety after my last contact with him on the 14th day of September 2017. A day I can never forget for the rest of my life.
On the face of this cheerful news staring on my face, I immediately intensified effort to ascertain the veracity or otherwise of the video clip. Only, this morning, I received a direct confirmation from my client, hearing once from him after 13 months in captivity.
I am very delighted therefore, to use this singular opportunity to announce to the world that my client is the very person seen in the pictures/video. That I can confirm authoritatively.
Furthermore, the shocking tale of how he made it alive once again will be made public in his scheduled world press broadcast to be beamed live within the next 24 hours.

The general public and indeed the world is advised to keep a date with this broadcast. The world will now hear from the horse’s mouth, the gory accounts of what happened in my client’s home on the 14th day of September 2017, only tomorrow.

Thank you all for your prayers which had sustained him throughout the period of 13 months in captivity. To His most Mighty name shall all the glory be ascribed unto.
It’s not yet over for the Nigerian Soldiers, because they are still under a compelling duty to offer explanation to the court why they moved their Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) into the home of my client on the 14th day of September 2017 and the genocidal massacre of over 50 (fifty) members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in my client’s home’.
He concluded.

Exclusive Interview with Vera B-Pride a London based Cameroon Actress debuting her First Production Nov 9th

0

The London premiere of My Husband Must Stay is set to take place at Odeon Greenwich Cinema on November 9th 2018. We had the privilege to interview the producer, Vera B-Pride to find out more about her acting/producer journey.

Read our exclusive interview with Vera B-Pride, an actress and filmmaker to watch out.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

WITH

VERA B- PRIDE (ACTRESS & FILM PRODUCER)

Hello, Vera, we know you as a UK based Cameroon actress and movie producer, can you please introduce yourself the Best way you see fit?

As mentioned, I am a UK based Producer and actress from Cameroon. I have also had the privilege of winning multiple Best producer and recognition awards. Aside from having an entrepreneurial mind, I have a passion for giving back to my people and have a foundation that caters for the less- privileged.

In 2002, I made a brief appearance in the movie “I Spy” starring; Eddie Murphy. This ignited my love for acting.

After taking time off to focus on raising a family, I returned to the screens in more prominent roles. Movies such as Purity of heart (2013), and thereafter, Why Marry, Breach of Trust (2016), Sista Sista (2016) Tears of the Rich (2017) Coming to London (2017), Mama Africa, Life, Wives of London, Foreign King and the TV series ‘Maids of Docklands.

My passion for making people laugh took my impeccable comedic skills to the big screen in 2017 with the movie ‘My husband Must Stay‘. The movie starres myself alongside Nollywood greats like Uche Oduputa, Kenneth Okolie and Victoria Inyama.

I currently have a few other films in post-production slated for release in 2018 and 2019.

When did you decide to become an actress and how long have you been Producing your own movie?

After the opportunity I had in 2002, I made up my mind to pursue my passion for acting and creation of motion pictures. I wrote my first comedy script in 2017 and it was adopted, accepted and sent into production, which has now set the scene for many more productions to come.

You have a new movie premiering at Odeon Cinema on the 9th of November.

Yes, my first ever production is premiering at the Odeon IMAX in Greenwich London, I am super excited.

Can you briefly tell us the synopsis of this movie and what the movie is all about? My husband must stay is a thrilling love story.

A couple who love themselves so much in spite of their educational Background. Philo who was uneducated and rich was in love with Sony who was poor but educated. Family members, friends and colleagues were against their relationship but they fought for what they feel for each other and ended up together. My husband must stay is a movie which shows and empower us to fight for what is right notwithstanding what people feel or say about it.

What inspired you to write and produce this story?

The inspiration springs from my love of laughter, making people laugh and creating a blissful environment for people to duel in. Comedy has always been a source of healing for me and possessing this talent and being able to give back by means of creating what will make people de-stress. To me is more than a blessing.

From the trailer of ‘My Husband Must Stay’, It looks like you brought Africa to the UK with some beautiful African attires worn by actors. Also, the setting of some Scenes looks African, tell us more about how this came to be.

I am African through and through and mother Africa itself is a source of inspiration to me. Everything I know and have become can be traced back to Africa. Thus if this aspect are not represented in my works in the best way possible, then I am incomplete.

What are the challenges you faced during the production of ‘My Husband Must Stay’?

Well, some of them are personal but I will say producing a movie was harder than I had anticipated mentally. But as you know, with every challenge faced and dealt with coherently, you emerge stronger

Can you also list some of the best moments during the production and making of the movie?

Best moments were getting acquainted and truly understanding my amazing cast and seeing the passion they have for the project. Also sailing through the challenges daily, gave me great eagerness.

You worked with Nelson Spyk, a popular London based Nollywood filmmaker and director on this movie, what was it like working with him?

I have worked with him before in other capacities, so that made our connecting to each other much easier. Above all, he is a great guy to work with.

What should movie lovers expect from this movie?

Adrenaline rush, plenty of laughter, excitement and great talent

You’re very popular in the London film industry, can you please list some of the movies you have featured in. Which one was your best to date and why?

Purity of heart (2013)

Breach of Trust (2016)

Sista Sista (2016)

Tears of the Rich (2017)

Coming to London (2017)

Mama Africa and the TV series

‘Maids of Docklands and

‘My husband Must Stay'(2017)

‘My husband Must Stay’ remains the best because it was my own production and the effort and commitment level employed myself made it the more exciting.

You worked with some popular Nollywood actors in this movie, why them and was it difficult casting the right actors?

Because I have watched them perform in similar roles before and they were absolute aces. I give it up to those guys. Casting the right actors was not difficult, but the difficulty was getting them on board the project. I wanted the best in the industry and best does not come easy.

Tell us more about the London Premiere of ‘My Husband Must Stay’, what should film lovers expect on the premiere day?

They should expect a lot of surprises especially from watching the movie itself. However surprises should represent the word, so I do not want to spoil it for them.

How can one purchase tickets? Will tickets be sold at the door?

There are numbers on the flyers to call and also I can provide bank details for direct transfers. The best method to purchase is direct contacts to my humble self. I am more than glad to speak to movie lovers regarding the event and to offer some degree of personal experience.

What time does the premiere start? Is there an after party?

Interviews, red carpet, networking, meet the cast we start exactly at 9 to10 The Movie will start at 10:00 pm Prompt. Yes, there is definitely an Afterparty.

And finally the last question, what do you hope to achieve at the London Premiere of your latest movie ‘My Husband Must Stay?

Human creativity drives us forward as a species. It’s this unique ability to harness thoughts and ideas that have produced great and mighty unimaginable works. Creative works amount to nothing if people cannot live in the experience. As mentioned earlier, my greatest desire is to make people chuckle, so come and enjoy a comedy night of laughter on the 9th of November.

Thank you so much for the great opportunity to interview you. It’s been a delight.

Congratulations once again Vera, you had come a long way and we look forward to capturing and documenting your film debut as a producer on the 9th of November.

Chimamanda Adichie Explains Why She is More Upset about Sexism and Not Racism

0

Author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was a guest at Esquire Townhouse with Breitling where she sat for a wide-ranging interview. She also used the opportunity to explain why she focuses more on sexism instead of racism.

On Saturday, October 13, Adichie spoke to Esquire editor-in-chief Alex Bilmes. She touched on Melania Trump‘s visit to Africa and why she believes the US first lady is a racist, on Identity, and on the US President Donald Trump.

She also spoke about Britain’s obsession with class, her unwavering support for the Obamas and why she thinks masculinity is a “hard, small cage”.

On racism and sexism, Bilmes asked Adichie:

You say that you are angrier about sexism than you are about racism.

“I said that because in my own very personal space, the people I love, the people I’m close to, my family, my freinds all get race. So, I’ve never with them had to make a case for why something was racist.
So, I’m in my circle of friends – White people, Black people, Asian people, Hispanic people – and something happens to do with blackness and immediately we all get it.
But with gender, I find, that with the people I love, I’m constantly being expected to make the case – the ways in which women are reduced, the ways in which authority in a woman is judged much more differently than authority in a man. And I find I’m constantly being asked by the people that I love – so I’m not talking about sort of, you know, anonymous people – to make that case. And it gets emotionally exhausting because I dont feel that I have the kind of effortless support that I have when I talk about race”.
