It’s a difficult time for anyone who share one connection or the other with the Nigerian Movie Industry. Tempers continue to flare after Lionheart, the film nominated to represent the country at the 2020 Oscar Awards, was disqualified from the Best International Feature Film category on the basis that it failed to meet the language requirement.

But one woman who has blatantly chosen to ignore the time is Lotanna Odunze.

The US-based illustrator has added salt on the injuries of several Nigerians by taking to micro blogging platform Twitter in a series of tweets to criticize some big name actors in the industry, particularly the legendary Pete Edochie.

According to Lotanna who is widely referred to as Sugabelly, ‘Pete is a really bad actor who has been playing the same role his entire life.’

She said of him: “Pete Edochie is a really bad actor. He’s been playing the same role his entire life. Acting isn’t quoting proverbs. But Nigerians live and die by seniority so the older he gets, the less anybody is able to point this glaring elephant in the room out.”

She also went on to critizes filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan and veteran actress, Joke Silver.

About  Kunle Afoloyan she tweeted: “Kunle Afolayan needs to refund me the over 1 and a half hours of my life I wasted watching his nonsense film Mokalik.”

On Joke Silver she tweeted: “Joke Silva is a pretty good actress but she overacts a lot. Not through her movements but through her voice. She always sounds as if she’s reciting Shakespeare when she’s meant to be chatting with her adult child at breakfast. Also, she doesn’t have much variation in roles.”

Unsurprisingly, her criticism did not go down well with many Nigerians who quickly took to the same platform to defend their theater heroes and lash out at the illustrator.

Sugabelly hails from the eastern part of Nigeria. She runs a profitable online platform in the U.S where the Igbo language is being taught.
