Dwayne Johnson’s WWE Hall Of Fame Father Dies at 75

Popular Hollywood actor and World Wrestling Entertainment legend, Dwayne Johnson has lost his father, Rocky Johnson at the age of 75.

A former professional wrestler, Rocky “Soul Man” Johnson passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 in Tampa Bay at the age of 75, according to a statement on the official website of World Wrestling Entertainment. Though no cause was given.

“WWE is saddened to learn that Rocky “Soul Man” Johnson (born Wayde Douglas Bowles), a WWE Hall of Famer, former World Tag Team Champion, and father of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, has passed away at age 75.” the company wrote.

Born Wayde Douglas Bowles on Aug. 24, 1944, Mr. Johnson grew up in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada and moved to Toronto as a teenager. He boxed as a young man and recalled sparring with Muhammad Ali.

He joined the WWE in 1983 and began wrestling with Tony Atlas. The two became a part of the first African American tag team — known as The Soul Patrol to win the World Tag Team Championship in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).

Rocky retired back in 1991 and he was later inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008. He also went on to train his son, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson , to become a wrestler
