EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH

Hello Cordelia Emeh, We know you as UK based Nollywood actress, can you please introduce yourself the best way you see fit?

I am Cordelia Emeh, a dynamic and multi-talented UK based actress and now a producer.

Cordelia Emeh producer – My London Slave Movie

When did you decide to become an actress and how long have you been producing your own movie?

I started my acting career as a teenager and took part in several stage plays. In 1991, I got a lead role to feature in a soap opera by the then Frontline Television Limited in Nigeria led by Dolly Esindu after an amazing audition but could not continue with the project due to family and other pressures at the time. With strong determination, I was able to get back into acting several years later when I relocated to the UK, Since 2012 I have not looked back.

I decided to become a producer in 2017 to take my career to the next level and I’m committed to promoting African Films in the diaspora.

You have a feature-length movie ‘My London Slave’ premiering at Odeon Cinema Greenwich on the 29th of March. Can you briefly tell us the synopsis of this movie and what the movie is all about?

‘My London Slave’ is a story that centres on a young lady called Ada. A graduate in the medical field who just became a doctor. One of her dreams is to marry a London “Bobo”. Luck shined on her when her bestie and childhood friend successfully introduced and matched her with her London based handsome brother. Life was set to be a dream until the nightmares started.

What inspired you to share this story with the world?

The story is based on true-life stories of various African women in the UK and we decided to share the story to the world as a caution, especially to women and also to men alike. To open people’s eyes to the different forms of abuse that couples go through in their relationships so as to take action when they notice the signs.

As a first-time movie maker, things often don’t go as planned. What are the challenges you faced during the production of ‘My London Slave?

The challenges I faced as a first-time movie producer is that of funding because it is very difficult trying to raise individual funds for a project like this.

Can you also list some of the best moments during the production and making of the movie?

The best moments are seeing the great hidden talents of different actors become reality in the making of the film.

Popular London based filmmaker, Toyin Moore directed the movie, What was it like working with her?

It is always a pleasure working with TY (As we popularly call her). I have been on a few of her productions in the past so I always enjoy working with her. My story in Nollywood will not be complete without mentioning some names and she is definitely one of them.

What should London movie lovers expect from this movie?

To every movie lover that will turn up on the 29th March 2019 to watch the movie, ‘My London Slave‘, we say you will leave the hall with a memory that will last a lifetime as this movie will blow your mind.

My London Slave features some popular faces from London Nollywood, was it difficult casting the right actors?

The writer of the story, Toyin Moore acted as the casting director so it was not too difficult casting the right people to each role because she understands the story very well.
