Netflix Introduces Itself To Nigerians On Twitter As It Unveils Cast & Crew For Its First ‘Netflix Naija’ Original Series

Popular US streaming platform Netflix is officially introducing itself to its Nigerian audience as it set to kick off production for its very first original series.

The streaming platform has opened a new Twitter account called Netflix Naija dedicated to its service to the populous black nation in what is being described as another huge breakthrough for Nollywood, the country’s movie industry.

Unveiling the new account on the micro blogging platform, Netflix released a series of tweets embedded with a photo that features Nollywood biggest producers and directors like Mo Abudu, Ramsey Nouah, Richard Mofe Damijo, Kemi Adetiba, Adesua Etomi, Banky W, Omoni Oboli and Kate Henshaw.

The big reveal for its very first original series to be headlined by Nollywood Director Akin Omotoso was made by Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, during the exclusive launch of Netflix Naija held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020.

Tuesday’s major announcement comes after months of speculations regarding a Netflix and Nollywood collaboration involving local filmmakers.

Nigerians are no strangers to Netflix featured films given that the viewing right to Genevieve Nnaji’s directorial debut film ‘Lionheart’ was acquired by the streaming giant after its release in 2018. Lionheart would go on to achieved incredible success on the platform.
