Nollywood veteran actress, Ini Edo broke surprising news revealing how and why she chose surrogacy to give birth to a baby girl recently.

According to records, Ini Edo is now the second celebrity star in Nigeria to publicly admit that she gave birth through surrogacy following an ex-beauty queen, Nike Osinowo, who announced similarly around 2013.

    What exactly is surrogacy?

Well, there are two types of Surrogacy; Traditional Surrogacy and Gestational Surrogacy.

Traditional surrogacy. This is when a female who gets artificially insemination with the father’s sperm then carry the child and give birth to him or her for you and your spouse to grow.

Traditional surrogate refers to the child’s biological mother simply because it was their egg that was fertilized by the father’s sperm. Donor sperm can also be used.

Gestational surrogacy. One process referred to as “in vitro fertilization” (IVF) now allows the possibility to bring eggs from the mom (or an egg donor), get them fertilized with sperm from the dad (or a sperm donor), and infuse the baby into the womb of a gestational surrogate then moves with the baby in the womb until delivery. They lack any genetic relationship to the baby because it wasn’t their egg that was involved. The veteran Nollywood star broke the information during a conversation with Stella Dimoko, on Friday. According to the 39-year-old actress, she had chosen this surrogacy to meet up with her life career target.

    She said:
‘‘Yes I do have a daughter and I had her through surrogacy. The Eggs are mine and so genetically she’s my blood. I chose this path to fulfil my dream of becoming a mother. I still have a good number of eggs frozen in case I decide to do surrogacy again or carry my baby myself .who knows”.

    When Asked Why Surrogacy?

The star responded that it wasn’t in her mind to cough about her child openly till she is one-year-old but couldn’t hold it any longer when ‘‘mischief-makers’’ began rumouring fatal lies about her.

The popular actress and businesswoman said she chose surrogacy for her rest of mind and that of her child then avoid controversies.

“One other cardinal excuse why  I chose a donor is that it makes me fear me when I see quarrels and hate argument trend between mom and dad over a child in social communities or when I observe the father talking tough that nothing will make loose hold of the child when things go haywire between them. To me, it scares me how that would affect the child. Naturally, it’s marriage, then children but we are so realistic about life.

” Personally I don’t allow any condition to weigh me down. I make lemonades out of lemons thrown my way and have no regrets. Life itself is so fragile and short to be striving for perfection. I am well and capable of taking care of my own child as I’ve been taking care of myself. I wanted a child and thank God for the options of surrogacy and donors.”
