Former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has completed a shock transfer to Premier League giant Manchester United.
Ighalo completed a temporary move to Old Trafford on Friday, becoming the first Nigerian to play for the English club.
Manchester United announced the signing of the 30-year old centre forward on transfer deadline day, and he will move to Old Trafford from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua until the end of the football season.
Ighalo has been brought in by the Red Devils on a short-term deal to help solve their striking dilemma following the injury suffered by talisman Marcus Rashford which could keep him on the sideline for the long term.
He becomes the second ex-Super Eagles player to move to a major European club this January after Victor Moses completed a similar loan move to Italian side Inter Milian earlier this month.
Ighalo is expected to travel to England over the weekend to undergo a medical and sign a contract.
Following the completion of the shock move, football lovers in the country have taken to social media to express their feelings.
Here’s how they reacted:
Congratulations to Ighalo on being the first Nigerian to play for Man U. I just hate that he will be the first player to have #coronavirus test included in his medical.
