South Korean comedy thriller ‘Parasite’ made history at the 92nd edition of movie biggest awards event, The Oscars, which was held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles on Sunday, February 9, 2020.
‘Parasite’ became the first foreign-language film to win Best Picture as it took home three awards including Best Original Screenplay and International Feature Film.
British epic war film ‘1917,’ which has dominated the Best Picture and Director Category prior to Parasite double victory, also emerged as big winner as it claimed three major awards that include Best Virtual Effects and Cinematography.
Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor for his role in ‘Joker‘ and Renee Zellweger took Best Actress for her playing Judy Garland in the biopic ‘Judy‘. While Best Supporting awards went to Brad Pitt and Laura Dem.
Many television critics have made a case that this year’s show, which was without a host, offered emotional moments and head-scratching choices even though the buildup to the main event was overshadowed by much controversy after the disqualification of some movies, including Lionheart, from the International Feature Film Category of the awards.
